Even today, Toyota continues to impress by cutting prices, winning races, and smartly investing in new technology. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Toyotas would remain visible in driveways across the Earth, throughout climate and economic crisis, the brand’s reputation held firm as an affordable, no nonsense manufacturer, that would get the job done at any challenge where wheels met the road. From their TRD (Toyota Racing Development) division, they would develop sports tuner icons like the Celica, MR2, and Supra, all of which continue to impress with high-performance wheels at races and meetups to this day.Īfter American tariffs were introduced, Toyota would start to build plants right here in North America, some of which are still employing Canadians right now. The Tacoma pickup, would break the stigma of non-american trucks, and go on to polish Toyota’s already solid off road reputation. The Toyota 4Runner was one of the first vehicles of its kind, it was so innovative that many accredit it with being one of the first to be called an SUV. Toyota would ride this momentum by releasing some of the most popular household names. Their reliable, powerful, and race-inspired 4 cylinder engines would find their way into all of Toyota’s products they would garner global attention, and break mileage records. Customers flocked to the compact and fuel efficient Corolla, and it in turn would grow to become one of the best selling cars in history. Toyota would humbly produce cars and trucks for international markets until the Oil Crisis of the 1970s, when the heavier and more gas-thirsty vehicles of the USA and Britain would begin to go out of trend. Truthfully in certain years Toyota has produced more vehicles than Ford or Volkswagen, making them an automotive dynamo, and the first word when someone thinks Japanese Cars. When Sakichi Toyoda invented his Type D Loom in 1924, did he understand that his machine would set off a chain reaction that would result in one of the largest manufacturing powerhouses the world has ever seen? Since that invention, a humble company would grow, based on a foundation of quality, reliability, and safety, these words are still synonymous with Toyota a century later.
